Moscow set to host Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Grand Slam with 1,220 athletes
Elite competitors from 32 countries prepare for two days of intense action
ABU DHABI/MOSCOW – Russia’s capital city is preparing to host the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Grand Slam on 29 and 30 August, with 1,220 male and female athletes set to compete in the 2026-2027 season.
The two-day tournament will take place at Moscow’s Dynamo Sports Academy and feature competitors from 32 countries. Among them are 85 black belts, adding a strong elite presence to the international field.
The tournament will bring together athletes representing a wide range of jiu-jitsu schools and styles. Competitors will battle for medals while testing themselves against high-level opposition and gaining valuable international experience.
Elite field
Brazilian black belt Jonathan Silva said the scale of the competition would make every bout challenging, particularly at black belt level.
“Every match is different when you compete at an event of this size. There are no easy fights at black belt level,” Silva said, adding that the presence of athletes from 32 countries would bring greater diversity to the competition.
Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Association, said the Grand Slam had established itself as a major event on the international calendar.
Next stop
Al Bahri said each stop brings together champions from different schools, describing this as one of the tournament's key strengths. He added that Moscow has its own character and that this year's participation reflects the confidence of athletes and academies in the event.
The Grand Slam series will continue in Shanghai, China, on 17 and 18 October as part of the 2026-2027 season.
